There is a lot of bad rap that we the legal immigrants have to face because of the rampant illegal immigrant problem, most of the folks here gets peeved off if an act has a bias towards that.

Were you witness to what happened in his home on that day?? If not, don't be judgemental....leave that to him and his wife and to family court. IV is not for "every good cause"...we are having very difficult time ourself...

So those guys who attended the hearings or met with senators. what was the result? what did they accomplished? did they get the opportunity to participate with the senator or law maker in an action plan? or we just wasted that opportunity asking for autographs? please those guys post your comments. - I strongly object to the language used in your post. How can you say the IV members just went to get the autographs. If you were involved in any of the meetings with the lawmeekers, you would know the difference. The difference, my friend, will come about once the DREAM Act passes in its present form. The undocumented child will pay in-state tuition, whereas your child will keep on paying out-of-state tuition. And in 3 years, the former will get premanent residency or GC, whereas your child will still be in the line for H1, EB2/3, at the mercy of USCIS.
So, do support this bill - I am 'so called legal' immigrant, my son is going to university (having H4 visa) but he is treated the same way as illegal sillegaltatus student is treated -- no financial aid is available to my son or in-state tuition fees. Where is the difference?

It is not true that Many people have to wait 10+ years to get gc. May be some people might wait for 10 years because of frequent change of jobs , layoffs and also ignorance of green card processing. Most of the time EB2 waiting time is 2 to 3 years. Indian EB3 is in worst situation but only for past 2 years and before that everything was current. For that also most waiting persons filed I 485 because of July VB issue. In my opinion EB3 PD will be backdated up to 5 years.
Also there is no legistrative activity in Congress about any immigration issue. Always skil bill comes in limelight when congress is in Session. But everyone knows that skil bill is asking too much in H1b and immigration numbers because of exemptions and it will be very difficult task. But no one in pro immigrant community is ready to compromise on numbers. When Congress tries to curb the abuse of H1b even pro immigrants are opposing the bills without any suggestion of any alternatives. If some bill comes for only GC that too moderate increase in numbers that will have bright chance of passing in congress.
You should not expect any rally will produce meaningful reform. It has to be proved that additional immigrant and H1b numbers will produce more jobs and it should not create unemployment in americans.Just sufferings of gc waiters is not enough. My opinion is Rally will be used to show strength of IV and may educate public and Congress. But anti immigrants also doing Similar Campaign(not big rallies) by negative points of immigration. The same congress till the end of 2008 and I doubt they will consider any immigration issue till new congress comes in 2009 that is not too far from now. But it is always good to try all the time.

your valid drivers license is clearly mentioned as one of the acceptable proof of legal status. you need to be arrested or there should be obvious reason to suspect ilegal presence for the law official to ask proof of legal status. Why is that of any concern? That is perfectly normal in a legal society. You dont have to walk around with your 797 or 94s all you have to carry is a valid drivers license. Even if you dont have a license you will be given a chance to proove your legal status or inother words the decision is not made on the spot.
Again for those unfortunate who are here ilegally this law might become an issue. But we might end up seeing inflation as a result of these crack downs. More industry particularly packing/agriculture might migrate oversees. Anyway we will wait and see.

I once asked an american embassy consular officer during an H1B renewal interview how long I had to stay in the US if I get laid off from my job. She smiled and said she doesnt know. Ironic right? That is US Immigration laws for you. So complex yet so unreasonable.

I am very happy with the customer services of New York Indian Consulate. All our passport renewals (4 during last 3 years) happened in a timely fashion and that too thru post without any personal visit. Whenever I e-mailed them with a question, I received answers promptly. I called them to know about status and received precise replies.
I think Meera Shankar needs to be fired. Its bloody 2010 and this is the kind of customer service the indian consulates provide - they dont pick up calls - it takes them a month to issue new passports - Always feel ashamed to be an indian any time I have to deal with these useless consulates.
The Houston consulate does not even have their address properly listed on their website.

So what is the correct address ?? Is it 1990 Post Oak Blvd or 3 Post Oak Central ?? Bunch of freaking idiots is what we have in all these US consulates.

In mycase I went to the local USCIS office and the IO there sent an e-mail as well but no news on my FP yet. Try your luck.

Guys - I asked my lawyer about the predicted time frame of my case which is EB3 ROW priority date of October 2005. I asked specifically if my case would be approved in a matter of months or years. They said that my case would most likely take years!
I don't really understand how the process works - how could it be years when my priority date is only 4 months away. Does anyone have any explanation why this would be the case.
This lawyer has been great for me and I trust what they say but I am not sure about the prediction - if anyone could shed any light on this I would be so grateful.

I will use it surely when I come across a good opportunity. This is a provision provided by USCIS just for the specific purpose of changing jobs, so why do you anticipate any issues with using AC21 with in the guidelines for using it. I would also consult some one (best one will be a lawyer in my view) who has done this and has good knowledge of this to make sure everything is in order. Best of luck and enjoy the little flexibility AC21 provides.
