I've also been approached by Amway people both in the Bay Area and beyond. I despise their tactics and their deception as much as (or more than!) anyone.
But let's not let it affect our community. Let's not let a few bad apples ruin that unmistakable bond we feel in America when we spot a fellow desi from afar. Now, any time I approach a desi to make a friend, I state in a jovial-yet-serious way, "don't worry, I'm not one of those Amway guys!" That's obviously not the first thing I say, but I make sure to throw that line in during the first minute or so of the conversation. If the fellow desi knows Amway, it gets a laugh, "oh, phew, that's a relief!" Once at an IKEA, I saw a desi who seemed to be following me. Turned out he wasn't following me at all. I asked him in a clearly joking tone, "Please tell me you're not with Amway!" He burst out laughing and we became friends (needless to say, he was not with Amway!).
So why don't we all agree on a similar approach? If we meet each other in public, let's simply state that we're not with Amway. And if you're accosted, simply ask that person if they're affiliated with Amway. Plain and simple.

ratturani, i am seeing an increasing number of posts that state the facts as clearly as you have stated... thats great... now i think somewhere some day, someone will float a good idea of motivating employers such as MS, Intel, BAC etc to fight for us instead of trying to motivate only the congress... see, we dont have too much of power in congress... :-(

HI,
I have filed my 485 on 8th June 2007, My 140 is approved in August 2006.

Also leaving your country and be here as a 2nd grade citizens living your life like an asylee, don't know when you could be thrown out ? You are paying $2000 per year to US govt. to allow them to let us live in the country, we are beaten in Australia, we are beaten in middle east. But 1 thing in common, we don't want to live in India.

Guys, I've heard (and only heard - don't red me now) that Cognizant has its H-1Bs being rejected and I've heard as far as this that some of the people in Cognizant who got green card through EB-1 category have been deported due to investigation after complaints regarding misuse of EB-1 category by these companies.

Dear Attorney,
I have an approved H1B petition, but was given 221(g) during consular interview due to lack of license to practice my proffession in US. They instructed me to submit the license within one year to stamp the H1B visa.
Now I am comming to US on a Visitors visa to write the licensing exam and to get licenced.
I am aware of the aware of possibility of changing status from Visitors visa to H1B after getting licence without leaving US, since I already have an approved
H1B.
But I came to know that USCIS will take around 90 days to approve status change from Visitors visa to H1B.
Kindly clarify whether I can start working for my H1B employer immediately after filing status change with USCIS, or do I need to wait till the approval, to start working.

As for "formerly superior Tamil competitiveness", I am sure what you refer to is, the fact that during the British period, the Tamils were given the lion's share (pardon my pun) of all the civil service and other administrative jobs as part of their divide and Rule policy. When SL gained independence of course, things changed so that formerly discriminated Sinhalese started getting their fair share of thse opportunities. Mind you that Sinhalese are after all 75% of SL. Are you saying it is fair to ask 12% of the population (SL Tamils) to have 50% of all the opportuniies and land and the resources reserved for them???

Since EB2-I is slowly catching up with EB2-C, future spill overs will be split between the two categories and not all will go to EB2-I.

We all have different views and support different nut jobs standing in elections. The real sad part is to see some people who I dont think are really bad, openly in this discussion forum putting one community down. Supporting a arsonist, a murderer, a rapist and who has blood of 2000 innocent people on his hands as a "good" administrator is an insult to the intellegence we all claim to have. All communities/castes/religions have suffered enough in India already and not one religion or people can claim to be on morally high ground. We all have kept quiet through the darkest times in India. We should not anymore. Stop insulting the great men (Nehru, Gandhi and others) of our country. With out them and their work we all would be polishing the shoes of some firangi. We are young and we should think about pushing India forward, otherwise some of us with our twisted thinking (for sure we are all showing here) will be the next numb nuts standing in the elections in few years. If you won't join tech company,and explore for direct employment then max pay you might get is Rs 15 Lakh per annum. or 15,000,00.
If you are an airline pilot,you will be welcome by open arms.Aviation sector is facing huge shortage.

You will be considered as anti immigrant if you support any of restriction to H1b or Grassley Bill even if the they are good. Even recapture is passed that will not resolve the problem unless the numbers are huge.Recapture bill will give only limited releif for limited time. If we want all of the problems of High skilled immigration system needs almost unlimited GC numbers and also huge expansion of H1b. That will be nearly impossible for atleast next 5 years or more.
If anyone is having good skills they will escape whatever the restriction they put for H1b. More restriction bad apples will be filtered. If H1b number goes down by restriction waiting time for GC will go down. Most persons will get GC within 2 to 4 years time at the same time best and bright will come here.
