The dream act is an awesome legislation, my dad was one who sent his application for I-485 and it was received on the 2nd of july. However, due to the July visa fiasco he is stuck like the rest of you guys. My point is rather that I aged out in June 2007 and could not be added with my family, for the month of July. I would receive benefits because this would put me out of status as well...also children of illegals are still children. They are not illegal because they did not choose the right to come here but came without any knowledge. So Please everyone take your time to call your respective senators and email them. Guys let's come together on this--everyone has some good points to share, from every angle. As a CP filer myself, I want to say that job stability concerns are very valid for CP filers, who are haunted by last summer's greenlight and today's major retrogression. The landscape has changed for everyone, for both queues. From personal experience of being in the BEC backlog, being too early for PERM and too late for concurrent filing, after 5 years of being in this process and seeing the further backlog ahead, yes I was willing to pick CP (even though I would be giving up my ability to work as the spouse) because it looked like things were finally moving last summer. The option was there for people to choose, and nobody knew the dates would roll back so painfully again. Equally, I also want to point out that IV IS about everyone and these marvellous efforts IV continues to put together and inspiring in all of us, are beneficial to all because the overall goal is to ease the backlog which is holding everyone back. Now that this discussion has happened we are all aware of the new problem that is facing CP filers in severly retrogressed countries. And it is better that this is brought to light as we continue forward. Please everyone, continue supporting the letter campaign and let's be united and discuss these issues with respect for one another.

I support this action item.
Here is my story. I came to US in 2001 and was able to get the visa stamping done in US twice. My visa expired in 2005. Since the revalidation in US is stopped in 2004, i did not go to India until i received my AP in 2007. This is because i know couple of friends (brothers) who were stuck in India for almost 3 months when they went for marriage in 2005. So i decided not to take the risk. I went to India in 2008 and returned back on AP.
Now i cannot use AP anymore because my I140 was denied by USCIS. This is for sure an error by USCIS. In the denial letter they said my company applied for X number of green cards which is not true. Green cards applied by the company are too low compared to the number provided by the USCIS. My appeal is pending at AAO. If the revalidation of visa can be done in US, i can get it stamped and visit the family in India instead of waiting for the decision on the appeal.

....I am not sure why someone is portraying Infy or Wipro as companies that go for "Easy money..." that's completely ridiculous. Agreed they are not doing lots of so called high-end R & D projects and majority of thier revenue is still from service industry. But that does not make these companies any lesser.
I am not sure how much insight you guys got into these companies, but they are doing quite a lot of good assignments. Also, the processes they got in place & the maturity they show in execution of assignments is definitely on par with any other software services company in the world.
Probably a bunch of you folks are frustrated with these companies because the billing rates are driven down & opportunites in US (for consultants) are becoming less due to these companies' offshore model - but that does not make these companies shallow as you are trying to portray.
PS: I am not an employee with either of these companies. FOr that matter, none of these offshore-based companies. But the facts are to be accepted.

Definitely nobody would have thought giving Green Cards to Legal Immigrants who are making renting industry thrive can also solve US Housing Slump.
Next time, they may even see a possibility if giving Green Cards can also solve Global Warming!!!!

I guess most of the folks here are busy preparing to apply for 485. I have different problem here.
My employer's attorney is charging me outrageous fees of around $5000 to
apply for 485, AP and EAD for me and my spouse. This excludes USCIS fees. I work on hourly basis, so I should be taking care of immigration fees. My employer is not allowing me to file through another law firm.
Do I have any other options. How much do they charge usually.

guys, do not be pessimists. First, this bill is still miles away from becoming law; even if it passes the senate it is going to be bashed by the house; they may be no CIR eventually this year; that will be to our advantage.

Secondly, the current mess we are in was caused by the "sub prime" mortgage loans. If you know what "sub prime" means, then you probably know the areas where these houses were purchased. Have you seen the neighborhoods or the areas where these houses are foreclosed? A majority of us won't even drive through there, leave alone buying houses there. So obviously, us buying homes is not going to solve this economic mess. If you still insist, then you perhaps need to take a class on economics 101.

1. Find an employer who is willing to H1 sponsorship.
2. The filing data starts by April 1st I beleive. Check with attorney.
3. Make sure your future employer does all the paper work required to file an H1. Ex. adv etc etc. Do not wait until April as the quota gets over in very short span of time. May be in few days.
4. Make sure you have all the paper work ready by march end and file it on April 1st or 2nd.
5. Check with attorney whether you need stamping to start working. I dont think so, but make sure. If you need a stamping, make proper arrangements to get it stamped. Once all are done, you are ready to rock from OCT 2007.
Time consuming part is finding an employer to do H1 and working with them to all the ground work before April 2007. Good luck.

Note desi employer (consulting company) are doing us favor by applying GC, other wise where the heck they have a permanent job.
Take it easy now and ACt after 6 months of filling 485.
Also these days lawyers have to do Overtime to prepare documents for sudden surge of new filers.
Ask your law firm why they are charging you so much. Below are the rates charged by my lawyer and should not be too different from what most of the others charge. If the lawyer doesn't answer, then show these numbers to your employer and lodge a strong protest with them.
