With all due respect, the probelem I have with volunteers is that I don't think amtures can pull a job this big, you've got to have profesionals, somethng like a compain maneger.
I admire the courage of your guys, and think the goal is fantastic. But the way it goes, I don't see how it can be achieved.
I've learned a great deal about immigration from the forum here. I very much appreciate it. I try to give back by answering questions others may have. I think IV has been doing a great job serving as that capacity.
But you guys want do something bigger. Well, you have faith in it, I don't, at least not now, neither many others. Maybe that is why you are still asking for money and volunteers.
IV was started by a few dedicated members, it has grown since then. It will continue to grow. As it grows and get more funding, IV can hire someone professional to do the things you say. However, you have to start somewhere. Can't expect to have paid professional managers first, before we even have the funding, and then look for funding to do the things it does.
And IV is more than a website. We want to build a strong grass roots movement by strengthening the state chapters. There is more than just lobbying that needs to be done.
As I was reading the posts, I was just thinking to myself that it will involve a lot of work to collect the checks, keep a record (even non-profits must maintain it for IRS I suppose) and deposit it. Most people in IV now are working professionals with a day job. The current system of electronic payment is best for now, in my opinion.

He called it garbage can out of bitterness and perhaps a little sarcasm. Obviously this is very important to him, otherwise he wouldn't have vented to perfect strangers on the internet. Have you never really wanted something and lashed out at it out of frustration?

Here is what you should do:
1. Print this memorandum
http://www.ilw.com/immigdaily/news/2006,0913-aytes.pdf
2. Take it and go for infopass.
3. Insist that they follow the procedures outlined in the memo. Do not leave until they do what they have to do according to the memo. They have to provide you a receipt that they followed the procedures.
4. Get your EAD within a week or so after infopass.
Thank a ton for the help, Can you please tell in more detail what i need to do/say there? I have heard that people are being turned back pretty rudely at local offices. Also do i need to fill any forms before i go there?
Thanks Again,

I cant tell you how much i was moved by the momentum that got generated during the 'black' weekend before christmas. One can tell the excitement and enthusiasm among the sufferers in this community. I wholly appreciate the efforts taken in setting up this site and following up on the issues. We need to generate the same kind of membership as we saw during that weekend.
One question i have and many others like me would be interested in knowing is a clear description on how the money collected will be spent. I understand by reading your posts that it will be totally transparent and will be detailed out every week. But its more important for people to know before hand on how and why money is needed, before they can open up their purses generously. Also please take this question in a positive attitude as more people would know the actual reasons.
thanks to all the immigration voice vounteers

As a time gap arrangement see if you can get your license from your home country.
Worst case if asked by a cop atleast you will have that.
Yes, I am also in the same boat. Filed my 9th year extension in March, responded RFE during 1st week of August. Mine will be expiring in 3 more days. Hoping to get the extension soon.

EB3 was like that most of the time. If you go back to 1995 all of the categories were current. China had cut off dates as more chinese than Indians were coming. From there number of H1bs were increased gradually. From 1997 they put cutoff dates and by the time 1999 things got worsened and there were 4 year waiting time and Many people were leaving country because of 6 year Cap of H1b. 1999 first time h1b cap was reached and 40% of them were Indians. In 1999 and 2000 demand for IT was so high and unemployment was record low US economy was in internet Boom. So congress realized that they need to do something. So they increased H1b(for 3 years) and recapture of GC and also AC21 was done. After Dot com Bust everything changed and outsourcing was so much and Indians were using 60% of H1b and equal number of L1. Still Indian H1b and L1 are increasing as there are more Indian consulting companies than H1b Cap numbers. So it will become worse for EB3 as there are so many restrictions of Eb2 unless congress increases GC quota. But it is going to be tough for any immigration reform as economy is very bad and unemployment is increasing. But if there is CIR there is a good chance of recapture bill to pass with CIR. Otherwise AC 21 is only way to survive here for those who filed I485.It is going to be challenging for those who not filed I485 as they have to survive as well they need to maintain immigration status
i am getting frustrated to see the bulletin everymonth and it never moves.
people applied in 2006 got their GCs. one of collegue ROW got when applied in 2007.
dont know whom to blame. why cant they understand our problems.

Guys,
Could anybody please share the explanation letter required for AP? I am still on H1-B but do not intend to go for stamping. I would need only for emergency.
Thanks

I ran across this article in one of the websites and read through all the links. I think, there is a strong message in this case, something I have personally faced in the past and do still face at at a smaller level. Though it is not an attempt to help raise money for her. Do please go through those news articles.

[B]Neelima is a native of AndhraPradesh, and most of you know about her racial discrimination and harassment law suit and her fight against injustice (below are the links for details) in US. On March 26 her case is going to trial in Dallas Federal Court. The legal battle has changed their life completely – financially and emotionally. The harassments, threats, slurs and retaliation that she faced at Caremark left her with no option but to file a discrimination lawsuit against the company. Because of the extreme harassment, she was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder resulting in her husband quitting his job to take care of her and their two small kids. Their American dream was shattered, they exhausted their savings, sold their house and car just to bear expenses and survive. With no health insurance her medical bills piled up as a result of the hospitalizations, expensive medications and treatments. Despite all these setbacks, she intends to keep the battle alive and keep fighting for a just cause.
Her fight is not against America or Americans, it’s against injustice. She is fighting for the dignity and the rights of every one of us.

Allowing people to file for 485, but not giving any GCs may be the plan.
Such a move do not bring much complaints from anti-immi groups. But this move will reduce the noise from people who have not yet filed for 485s. May be after getting EAD all those people will invest more in America.
This is maximum bang for the immigration buck from the USCIS/DOS point of view.
Ron says it will be current for a "brief" period. (similar to july 2007 fiasco ?)
It will be a good opportunity for people waiting to file 485. For people already in the queue, it may not make that much difference.

President Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize. Solving seemingly intractable international problems is chief on the President's foreign policy agenda. Hopefully, solving the immigration problem will remain chief on his domestic agenda.

you can definately contribute less than 50$. Just login to paypal and send your contribution to donations at immigrationvoice.org and better yet team up with your colleagues and if 10 of you can contribute 10$ each that becomes a 100. We have had a few IV'ans do that.
Please remember IV is made up of people like you and me and IV will become what we want it to be. IV cannot function without contibutions from members like you and me as well. Every member in IV (including the Core team) has a Job, Career and a family. some IV'ans contribute money, some contribute time, some contribute both time and money and some do none. It is all about priorities.:)
Hello there,
I have been wanting to make an IV contribution for a long time and here is my problem..I probably can be labeled a miseror a magpie! ..Whenever I go to the IV link to contribute and see the $50 or $100 option I panic and get out..yes I do!
I have some desi colleagues and was discussing this issue with them at work..and they had the exact same experience..wow..I am not the only magpie..
But hey is'nt IV the one which is at the receiving end not getting our contributions..
I speak from my own experience and call me a mapie or a miser..or whatever..I cant make myself make a $50 or more contribution .. thats the way I am..But I can sure make a smaller contribution (like a monthly recurring $10 contribution which really is easier to make) and I am quite sure IV will benefit from my small contributions as well as i think a lot more people will not hesitate making contributions in smaller denominations than a whopper $50+
And really this is not related to IV effort but more to do with my own way of thinking about parting with my money..I love my money..:)...
My history - Made $0 contributions so far..and have been wanting to contribute for a long time now..but keep backing away..

I only meant if you have the native country license already or if you can get it remotely. Leaving the US for the express purpose of getting you native country license would be an overkill...as you would agree :)
Unfortunately, I can't leave the US for the following reasons
a) AOS pending
b) H1 expiring soon
c) Won't get any vacation time as just joined a new job.

I filed an apeal for my first PERM too and preparing to file another one (through another company - you can't file another PERM via the same company while your first PERM is in appeal). Your's is there for longer than mine. I heard 4 to 6 months would be the time. Please let us know when and how yours is resolved.

sounds funny and will make news, but I am not sure it helps in our campaign to get the system fixed.
It would get attention and help in educating (legal vs illegal) and would be done in conjunction with other things like:
-sending more flowers
-a huge rally in Silicon Valley
-candlelight vigil at congress
-mass letter mailings from all of us
-human chains
-hunger strike?
-etc
We have to attack simultaneusly (but SMARTLY) from all angles in order to be effective!
