Reduced Course Load - 214.2(f)(6)(iii)
The new rule establishes that a reduced course load is only acceptable to maintain F-1 status if it is subject to prior approval by the school and includes at least six semester or quarter hours, or half the clock hours required for a full course of study. A reduced course load for less than half time is only acceptable for defined medical reasons (214.2(f)(6)(iii)(B)) or for the final term of study if the school determines that fewer courses are needed to complete the course of study (214.2(f)(6)(iii)(C)).
I need urgent advice from you. As you know my wife is on F1 visa and completed most of her credit hours needed by school. She has get only 1 credit hr to complete the course. However, that�s below 9 hr full time student status. She has been asked to register for additional 8 hrs..and pay tuition fee accordingly ( > 8K). Which I think is unreasonable. They told her that if she doesn�t register by tomorrow they have to report it to INS. She told them that she has EAD..there answer doesn�t matter in order to remain in school and F1 visa she has to register.
My questions is:
1) Can she continue working on her Thesis on her EAD and AP ?
2) What will happen to her f1 if she use EAD
In response to these questions my Lawyer said
1.) yes, she can continue to be a student as an adjustment applicant � she can work using the EAD and travel using the AP.
2) she is basically no longer an F-1 because she has demonstrated immigrant intent by filing the adjustment. Which is fine � she has valid legal status as an adjustment applicant and can work with the EAD and travel with the AP.
What do pro�s think..:)

My mother was here last year for almost 9 months (I got her visa extended). I thought one can only claim a person on visitor visa as dependent if he/she is a US or Canadian permanent resident. Is this not true? If not, how can I claim exemtions for her if she is back in India.

For a lot of others it's a long wait. Unless you used substitution labor to jump the line, increasing the Visa numbers, elimination of country quotas is your only hope. IV is the only organization/movement working for it.
Be part of the movement to get those LUDs in your case. Real status is - 'Case Approved'. Rest all are passe. Work for the real thing.

Man, you are so crazy about opening so many threads for the same topic. You cannot force people to send letters. And by this time those who wants to send letters had already sent to WH and IV. Give us some break. I come to IV site to get some information on immigration issues and what I get are 'n' numbers of threads for same issue. ---- ADMIN FIX.......

A lot of people lack motivation because they just canniot pull the trigger and once in a while we must give some push.
I am a chapter lead and I do play an important role - go to the state chapters page and look up for my name, thanks for ur suggestion about contacting pappu

My employer had legal dept and lawer filed G28 form for me when applied for I-485. Do we really need to hire a lawyer to represent us? I am planning to move to client under similar job description this month end and would like to see if I have to file AC21 and change the lawer representation.
I appreciate any response.
you can change lawyers, you cna also revoke the G28 to make it self representation. Its not a bad idea to do self-representation because:
- EAD/AP renewal is straightforward and you cna file it yourself.
- if you ar elucky you will get GC straightaway.
- if you get an RFE, then depending on how messy hte RFE is, you can decide on a lawyer.

Funds, There are more ideas than funds. For every new campaign, plan, we need funds. So it is an ever needed commodity. We can do a lot and lobby effectively, we just need more funds, plain and simple. Inspite of several hundreds contributing, it is not enough. Remember IV is a non-profit, so every penny is accounted for. People handling money (core IV) are sincere, honest hardworking people on work-visas, they have much to lose from not being accountable. And the most important thing is, please take a look at these hard-working IV CORE PEOPLE, please. Some of them have put thousands of dollars (I mean 5 and ten thousand) into this effort. I am not counting personal expenses, travelling to DC, lost work hours etc.
So your $100 at the bowling arena, or $50 at dinner or $35 bouquet wont get you much farther, but your recurring contribution to IV will.

Sorry for not mentioning in my first post earlier... Just now I received a copy of the Letter which my company received from the USCIS. It is mentioned as "NOTICE OF INTENT TO DENY (NOID)".
Reasons:
- Section 203(b)(2)(A) of the Act states
- 8 C.F.R 204.5(I)(3)(ii)(C)
These are related to the Education for 3 yrs degree..
- What is the next step ?
- What is the chance of a positive result?

Last year I had already filed for married filing jointly before stimulus check thing was in discussion. From what I understand once you file married filing jointly you cannot amend to married filing separately. You can amend otherwise.
Anyhow this year if I do my taxes separately I end up owing to IRS. Does anyone know where to look for info for amendment?

How funny and no brainer this is ? We can give taxes (thousands and thousands of dollars) and no body says , "since your wife is not having SSN, you do not have to pay taxes". But while giving back tax rebates of $1200 to $1800 or so , they say, so.
