    It's a beautiful message said in simple terms and all of us should try to follow it!

    He made India proud at Oscars and all Indians are very proud of him. Time to rejoice.
    He did prove that music and art have no barriers.

    I am also proud to live in such wonderful country who are open to any new talent and do not hesitate to honor anyone irrespective of their color,race and religion.

    H1 was approved some time last year and H1B started from 10/1/2006.

    Can employee start working without SSN? My wife received H1 approval around Oct 2006 and we applied for SSN in Nov 2006. We received it by end of Feb 2007. From March 07 we got pay stubs.

    People who switched from F2/H4 to H1 can consider their SSN application time as valid status. Right?

    hey aadimanav,

    If the legislations dont change - my estimate would be even more than 7 years (come on they already have 500k pending app before this 300k July2nd boom). In USCIS term It doesn't matter where you stand in line out of that 800K folks. The NSC july 2nd filers are speculated to be transfered to TSC almost 2 months down the line and no one has guaranted that our Original Receipt date of July 2nd be kept intact - How do you logically map this ??

    Well, I don't think I am at the end of line of 300,000 people. There must be lots and lots of people whose priority date is after April 2004 might have filed. This includes 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.

    So I think 3 years is intelligent guess. But who knows I am just trying to make myself happy and trying to stay positive.

    I know I am not going to get my GC righ away by attending rallies/meetings and activity's. But there should be an efforts from every one to raise their hand and contribute for the cause. Appreciate the core members and state chapter leaders for your vision and work.

    At the same note,I regret for not being at DC after meeting some of the members yesterday.

    Before, I have little/no idea of how to approach lawmakers (my idea of meeting lawmakers was like meeting politicians in INDIA, Zindhabad...Zindhabad type), glad i do now :rolleyes:!

    Main concern/talk was about not many people turning up with 3000 IV members in the tristate, I strongly believe we can do much better in the number department for the next meeting. Again, not just numbers but with some motivation to take part in the events to come.

    I did not like the leaders thanking the members just because they turned up! It should always the other way around, members should thank the leaders for organizing such events. After all it is for ones own benefit, no one is doing a fa�vour to any one!

    Come on folks, join ur state chapters.

    We are always told, �Break the law, and you will be in trouble�. But, the recent �Immigration Reform Grand bargain� proposes to send a message that is precisely the opposite.

    We are being told that no undocumented immigrant will get ahead of those in backlog. While the backlog of Family-based petitions has been highly publicized, the petitions of individuals (engineers, scientists, doctors and other professionals) are being left in legal and bureaucratic limbo. About half-a-million highly qualified professionals and their families have put their faith in the legal immigration system and due process of the United States, while working to enhance the US economy. These people have pending petitions either with the Department of Labor, or with the CIS, the final adjudication of which will enable them to work with a US employer, with consequent ripple effect on the US economy.

    In the old system, employment-based petitions were limited to 140,000 per year, but the proposed system, �in order to reduce backlog�, reduces them to 90,000 per year only! On the contrary, Family-based cases used to be limited to similar numbers, but now have been increased to 567,000 per year! In addition, close to100,000 of these applicants with pending petitions are being asked to start from scratch in the new system. In effect, it is similar to changing the �rules� or rather, the �Laws� after the fact! Innocent high-skilled prospective immigrants are being penalized due to bureaucratic delay in the DOL.

    Highly skilled doctors, scientists, engineers, and computer professionals have been stuck in backlogs since the last 3-4 years. They had hoped to get relief from the �Immigration Reform�, but have been let down badly. They are being forced to renew their H-1Bs yearly now, while the old system allowed 3-yr incremental renewals while their Green Card petition was pending. Seems like a fitting reward for following the Laws, isn�t it?

    Per washintonpost report, USCIS on purpose delays the process and keep backlog to earn the extension and renewal fee as 20% of their budget. THIS IS CALLED SCAM.

    I guess our members need some education about different things like how the senate functions, voting system, & etc. Read more guys before commenting and bashing the politicians.

    There is a lot of information related to legislation, and political matters posted by one of our members, Macaca.

    It is july 14 2007 for 'Employment-based adjustment applications'

    I am finally able to look the website with May dates.

    It seems they have gone back from where they were last month.

    My friend recently came through EWR, he had no issue other than more waiting time (approx 1 hr). He just showed his AP & Passport. He was sent to other counter, upon which they asked only one question 'Are you the same person that it is displayed in the AP document' :)

    Everything went cool with him. His I-94 is valid for 1 year from the date of entry.

    It is better to make two trips and do a civil wedding i know it is expensive imagine if she has a work permit u can make up for the cost in no time else she will not be able to work for many many years.

    I am in a similar situation getting married in Sep07 and returning with my wife at end of Sep'07. It is little scary, as some say it might be risky not to apply along with the spouse.

    Should I go ahead and apply for I485, EAD and AP all three at the same time now, or to apply just for I485?

    I am not sure what advantage would be applying now, as I have to wait until the dates become current again, and I will not be able to use my EAD to maintain my wife's H-4 status.

    Like you I had been waiting since 2005 (when my labor and I 140 got approved) for my PD to be current. Now that its been current since October 1, 2008 and even had been current in few months in early 2008 I realize that its just one more wait.
    Nothing is going top happen by increasing quota unless USCIS speeeds up processing and decised to process based on a documented criteia (right now its completely random as TSC and NSC are out of synch and neither seems to follow any sequence of PD, ND or RD).
    Me and others like me have been waiting since 2001 and we are still stuck even though PD is current. We have a special thread for us who are pre OCt 2001 PD and are still waiting. So if anything focus on getting USCIS to process orderly and efficiently. If you increase quota but dont change USCIS behaviour you will be worse off.

    Call your local congressman or Congresswoman and Senator. They will help your case. My friend was in same situation and they helped him. He got his GC in 2 months after calling his congressman.

    This is a very sad for EB3, there is no movement since 2004 Dec except 2007 fiasco. Our best option is right now to send a letter to local congress member and Senator. Tell your story in the letter. When did you come, what is your investment, future investment, career stagnant and our life is hanging in the middle of no-where. I will suggest to everyone to send the same letter to Local news paper also. At least you will see some kind reponse from politician here. I have alwyas receive a response from house members and senators. I think we should send the same letter to Ombudsman too. This is my thoughts. If gorup have some other idea. Please let us know.

    I can say with confidence that dates for October WILL NOT move forward 3 years for ANY category compared to August Bulletin.

    We will be lucky to see 1+ year movement for EB-2/3 India/China. My 2 cents..

    I think we should start a Employer Hall of shame and nominate employers who are either cheating the employees or the Immigration system.

    This will help future employees and the immigration community as whole.

    I am not sure if there are any legal implication to starting something on IV on this

    Well, I like you because you are just a straight shooter. If you are such a straight shooter then let me do some straight talk, so just catch this.

    Your American mid-size company or Desi small size or super size company will get $180/hr but you will not get even $50/hr from the same client even when you go direct. So no matter how "highly-skilled" you think you are, your non-compete argument is not good enough for you not to be able directly market yourself, because there are gazillion other companies using BI, Cognos, BO, Informatica, Datastage and every similar crap. You can impress a few people by naming some technologies that maybe hot but they don't mean a &hit if you market them yourself. Here is why. A lot of people blame the lack of GC as a reason to be exploited. That is part of the problem. The other part of the problem is that most hiring managers in large companies get commission from these small, mid-size or large American, Desi or European consulting companies. That's why in most cases they always hire through one of these companies. They will not hire directly because the manager thinks you to be a stingy desi, and if he hires you directly the hiring manager will not see a dime, so why will he hire you directly? This is a big cycle of corruption and everybody is part of it including lawmakers who get contributions from lobbyist/representatives of these small, mid and large size companies. You think lawmakers don't know what is going on? You think client doesn't know that you make 85K when the middle company get $180/hr? You think the big-bosses at the company/client doesn't know that the hiring managers are getting favors from middle companies? You think lawmakers doesn't know that immigrant worker waiting for long delayed GC is bonded to an employer that buys employee retention insurance policy for the employer? They all know it. But you see every player in this movie, you, your hiring boss at the client site, the middle company, the lobbyist, the lawmaker and many more, they are all being paid from that $180/hr which you think that you are entitled for because you know Oracle BI and Congnos. Do you realize how easy this ETL, Informatica bull &hit is but somehow you seem to think that its worth $180/hr. And you seem to think that your problem is that other than you, everybody else around you is faking resumes. If you are so smart answer this, how will you avoid using two bitmap index on two columns in two tables when used in the same query? And why would you want to avoid using both the bitmap indexes? Na Na, now don't go to Asktom.com to look for an answer, you are highly skilled, you deserve $180/hr for knowing Congnos and Informatica, shouldn't you be knowing atleast this.

    Sorry, did not mean to put you on the spot, just trying to highlight that the problem in this entire debate is, every player in the picture stands up for his/her position always trying to project self-righteous image highlighting the part of the movie in which he or she is the hero and all others are villains. And BTW, now some "super-genius" branic at IEEE - some Ron Hira or NumberUSA or someone with the name Matloff will selectively cut paste from yours or mine post and use it to prove his/her agenda to make name and career for himself as if he is the savior of the world and ALL IMMIGRANTS are evil. And the story goes on and people continue to wait for something to happen when the cycle of corruption continues.... Best of luck my friend, you sure should get $180/hr on EAD, GC and when you are a citizen. It the turn of the idiots at Programmers Guild to read this thread thinking why they are not getting $180/hr. And those geniuses still don't get.... and they blame us for their problems.     Yes GC/EAD gives to room to look around / negotiate the higher rate , to sustain and move up will require a lot more than that.

    Look at the aveage compansation for any area.
    Assess your expertise ( not to compare with you the guy sitting next to you)
    Try to move up in the ladder
    Keep updating your tech skill
    Diversify to more ( but related ) skill.
    Add niche like PMP / Six Sigma.

    Top of all , little bit of Luck , to be right place at the right time .

    I dont think , i have mentioned anything here extra ordinary , only "CS"

    I am suprprised if IV is working towards abiltiy to file 485 and hard country limit...Just want to know how IV is working towards these 2 items...
    If any of these two wont show out in coming bill,..then I would say goodbye to IV..because all other items in bill were there without IV;s interaction....

    Can somebody calrify if these options will anyway include in this bill..by means of ammendements...

    We have been fighting very hard to introduce a number of amendments including the ability to file I-485 and also to remove the country limit. We have spoken to a number of senators in this regard.

    While we have no guarantees that they will be introduced, one thing I can guarantee, we will fight as hard as we possibly could.

    What are the implications for software industries - if dollar goes down againest rupee?

    a. Lesser profit margins for Indian companies which might result in cost cuts and layoffs;
    b. Lesser salary for Indian software employees in India;
    c. BSE will crash down to adjust to the currency changes;
    d. Indian real estate market will go down as the NRIs will not be able to afford land prices;
    e. Indian farmers will be effected because imported agricultural products and food grains will be cheaper;
    f. American companies will not be able to afford outsourcing in India and will be forced to bring more H1b employees from India to develop inhouse;
