I would sympathize with you if you can do the following:
1) Show me that no more than 90% of the population experience depression tendencies at some point in their life.
among EB applicants I believe it would be 99%. So are you alone? I guess not:D:D
Things you could do: Try watching talks with the Dalai Lama (available on youtube). Read books on Gandhi. Increase frequency of quiteness / meditation. Watch atleast one comedy show per day. Visit/remember the sick/disabled/poor or other less fortunate people than you.
Things you could avoid: Heavy drinking. Watching news, movies/shows which are high tension. Most important is not to fight the emotions/thoughts that you consider are destructive. Allow them to come and go. Just watch them come and go........
What you consider as "Good luck" can happen to you in the fraction of a seccond, however, it will never happen if you keep on defining yourself as unlucky. So focus on the good things you have now and refrain from comparing to "what you should be having or are worthy of having". :D:D:D:D

I follow similar techniques to stay optimistic for most part of time. but every once in a while, there comes a time when I think why do some ppl get so lucky in everything they do.... they succeed in everything they do. while there are unlucky ppl like the poor/disabled etc who are destined to live unfortunate life deprived of so many things that other ppl enjoy regularly. is this what they call 'Law of Karma' ? did I do anything bad/evil in my past births - did I destroy anyone's career or life ? I find it hard to digest why would they mind if some one has been to India recently?

I think Wah Wah is confused by the differences between 'retrogression' and 'backlog'. Of course, you are right that the PDs are not likely to go much further back (I think USCIS took a conservative approach after July - note they are still issuing visas to those with non-current PDs but are using the bulletin to limit incoming new filings). However, if 20 million applied in July the coming backlogs would be horrendous, even though priority dates would not necessarily need to go back further.
However, in a sense, if the backlog is perpetual, and let's say the PD never really moves forward by more than, for example, one month, in the next 10 years (I'm picking extremes to make my point) then the effective retrogression at that point would be greater than say todays.

Many here are 'strongly against' those 'horrible' desi or whatever companies after getting an h1b through them. As we know most of the software consultants are here only because those companies could utlize the loopholes in the system. (We all know that this labor certification and such things are nonsense!). It is great to fight for 'legal' things but when you see those who misusd it themselves are 'fighting' for it, makes people feel so funny! We all know that what we all need is GC, whatever be the way, and whatever happens to 'others'. It is legitimate and understandable to fight for 'our cause', otherwise who will fight for us?
[According to me nothing is 'wrong' to be here using any method even being an 'illegal immigant', but fortunately I am here in USA 'legally' and not using 'desi' or such companies]

Best way to get more immigrants to participate in advocacy efforts by immigrationvoice.org for legal immigration is by communicating to international student organizations of various universities around virginia, maryland, washingtondc,west virginia north and south carolina. Arranging busses for the students is not a bad idea. Yes but in Canada you will breathe clean air and drink clean water. You will have electricity 24 hrs a day and water 24 hrs a day. You wont find trash on the street and you wont be considered second class citizen if you arent SC/ST/OBC due to reservations. You woint have to give "donations" to get your kid admitted to Class 1. You wont face a system where a simple court case drags to 50 yrs or a case where doctor will not treat if before police does a "Panchnama" if you had an accident. You wont have to bribe everyone from minucipality to police to start a business.
Canada is already worse than India (atleast for IT sector). Hard to find jobs. Salaries are 75-80% of corresponding US jobs. And Candian $ is also cheaper (though catching up with USD).

Life is what you make it. No one force anyone to come to this country on VISA and work and be In GC line. Things happen in life. The way you are talking is as if whole world will collapse if you don’t get green card. No one would die because of that. Grow up and move on in life. This is just a minor obstacle in life. Smart intelligent people can make money and have a good life any where in the world. Probably you would face lot more challenge in life than this green card issue, which I am sure you will give your best to overcome. Don’t make this GC a big deal in your life. :)
I mean the way we talk on these forums are as if all our careers along with our family life will be finished before we reach 30-32 if we don’t get green card. Come on man, so many people faced so many disasters from WW1-2 to flood to hurricanes where they lost everything and still moved on to do great things in life and here we are depressed because of this GC?
Its very interesting to read about people’s different perspective about same thing we are all after.. lets ask ourselves.. honestly why we do want GC and I am sure we all would have multiple reasons for this in our subconscious but would not like to bring it to forefront because it would only undermine our own ability to fight it or make life more stressful.. but end of the day we all want this card.. for me I want it mainly for security and peace of mind…lets look at the different situations.. these might be extreme but we all might have thought about these situations atleast at some point in the recent past… .. and especially the people in the seventh year
1. You are in your seventh year… and you loose you job….what is the first thought that comes to your mind.. I got to pack and leave .. pack your home of seven years and all your possessions you collected, in two suitcases of 50lbs each and leave…forget the Flat Screen TV,, forget all the electronics and the two cars you love ... just list them in craigslist …
2. You have home which you bought with so much pride…what do you do? ..List it.. make a desperate sale in this falling market.. loose a ton of money and leave…and don't even talk about all the silk plants..floor lamps.. the furnishing,, they are for the yard sale on the Saturday..
3. You have child whom you love and have plans for them.. love the school.. are an active member in the PTA … all of sudden what you do.. pull them out of school, move them from the only culture and the country they have known the only President they know is Bush and the only national anthem they have learnt is "The Star-Spangled Banner"…to another place where they don’t even understand the language forget the culture, national anthem etc..
4. Think about your spouse.. they have adopted themselves to this lifestyle.. probably felt lonely when you moved here 7 years but now like it.. its time for them to move back…why because your don’t have a GC
5. Forget the Golf and Tennis you enjoy so much here …it was all a very good dream..

You are educated.. have a masters, have a professional degree.. but have been in the same position and department because of your long wait for GC, what happens… the fresh college graduate or the dumb blond who joined two years back and whom you taught how to log into the network is now your peer and you are still on the same desk doing the same job getting the 2% raise and working even more hard..so that you can keep you job..with a new dumb boss.. who thinks you are so dumb that you have been in the same job for so long time..
2. All your batchmates are doing great..some of them are now sweating to be VP’s having risen by changing jobs …. You are still years away from that situation.. what do you do.. stop attending alumni meets and envy the mails in your yahoo groups from people..
3. Seven years in US.. you have made your professional contacts.. and have a social network.. in which you invested your time and effort.. loose your job in the seventh year.. and all these contacts are nothing but an occasional international long distance call in future..
Last but not the least… flight back home to your country is not going to be as smooth as the flight to US was seven years back.. back home look for a job..learn the whole new professional culture …and then set up a new home,,new school for kids….why because we could not get a GC.. which was not in our control.. and because some stupid insane guy sitting in cave 10K miles away decided to terrorize the people in America in 2001.. and make life difficult for all the people..including people in H1...
We might all go back to our home country one day.. but the ride back home would be much more pleasant and happier of a choice we made and not because we did not get a GC…

First, there are many procedural votes and we are not always privy to the happenings behind the scenes. This was alluded to in other places.
Secondly, although it was defeated, there was a healthy simple majority and this augurs well for any reconciliation process.
Finally, any impetus for immigration provisions are likely to emerge form the house side, who have been seeing our plight up close. There are likley to be some behind the scenes arrangements made and the final agreement may look slightly different. For example getting Sen. Durbin's support by getting in the H1b restrictions will get the support of some more Democratic members, they could then proceed with the favourable provisions. All said however, it is likley they wil do this as a rider to some bill rather than in the glare of the public as a stand alone bill.
I just hope the staunch CIR folks, become a little more pragmatic and stop being a hindrance, and stop holding legal immigrants hostage to their issues. They after all call themselves pro-immigrant, right? Ironically convincing them of that seems to be our most difficult hurdle.

I wish there will be at least some forward movement in EB2 category in next month bulletin. The psychological barrier 01/01/2003 which was stuck there since May this year should pass. This month bulletin is little relief for EB2 folks compared to the PD unavailable in the month of September:)

I wonder whether someone knowledgeable could create a thread (or add to one that exists) about this mess, mechanisms that led to it and how it is going to affect the slaves, pintos and the rest (of iV) in the next 12 months? An intelligent discussion for a change. Dude; not that your idea is bad, but don’t come up with assumptions that the fed chairman is clueless!! He has been handling the crisis extremely satisfactorily. So far he has proved to be a good chairman and similar to Greenspan and Volker.
You have to understand derivatives and structured investment vehicles to understand what the economy is facing. The risk of sub prime CDO's has been spread thorough out the credit markets. Just imagine Bear Stearns which has a head quarters building in NYC worth $1 billion was sold for $236 Mil. Yankees pay A-Rod more than that. This will tell you how the valuation of derivatives has depleted cash flow and liquidity of a wall street titan which had stood through the great depression, 2 world wars, market crashes in the 1970's, 87, 01 and recessions in between.
Google "Long term Capital management (LTCM)" and study their history you will see what derivatives are capable of. Warren buffet calls derivatives "Financial instruments of mass destruction".
So the man is faced with such a mess, don’t insult his intelligence by making unwarranted statements.

As I understand it correctly, you have a very personal reason for not getting married before Sept 07. I have to say that in that case, go ahead and at least file for your green card, that way you create one more option of applying through family based, even if it means 6-7 years of waiting period. Ideally you would like her to come to states at least for 2-3 business days to get court marriage and filing of docs, but if thats not the case then this is your best option.
