The best thing an individual can do is look for a full time job and not worry about things not in his control. I cannot imagine that they will cancel existing visas, so those who have time on their visas left are probably safe.....for now.
If they are going to phase out of IT contractors from H1B visas by denying all new extensions or new visas, then they will be positions that need to be filled. While they might be a lot of unemployed American programmers they might lack the skills the newest technologies.
Other than that, this could be a great opportunity for Indian companies as large IT implementations might be completely outsourced now; if companies are unable to staff their projects with H1Bs here.

I guess all the euphoria we had last year because of EB1 spill over is coming to an end. People who play by rule and wait suffer the most, while people who are always on the look to find "innovative ways" get their GC faster. I remember, one of my friend who did a labor substitution got his GC many years before. But at the same time, he took the risk of joining a consulting firm, while I was more inclined to remain under the so called safety net of a big incorporation. I guess the more risk you take, more rewards you get (and sometimes get completely screwed too!!)
However, we did a nice efforts last year to predict the visa bulletins. There was this guy vdlrao who did an impressive calculation and declared that EB2 will be current in an year. Well, its more than an year and what we have is worst than we had last year. I can only sympathies with EB3 guys, I don't know what to call it .. may be karma in previous birth.
But my mute point is that we almost always create a false hope for us. First we predicted that EB2 will be current in one year, later on our whole legal immigrant community was nurturing the dream that Mr. Obama will win and his first executive order will be to ship GC's via overnight fedex. We overlooked that even though immigration is looking bad, but reforms in this area is a trailing priority for the new administration. Infighting within EB2/EB3 and various language speaking people is nothing new for us.
Candidly speaking, neither we have seen any bright idea coming forward from us, nor people are willing to join hands and fight for their natural rights. So coming back to the original point, what's wrong if someone instead of depending on immigration forums, and "ethically" waiting in line, takes a little risk and gets his/her GC faster. Dillip good luck with your new challenge man. I understand you are currently in a difficult situation hope you will come out of it. Just one note though. Having graduated from a top school doesnt give anybody a right to top pay check and job security. I myself an IIT grad with a PhD from US- currently with Intel. I was expecting everybody to lap me up right out of undergrad. All I got was a chance. I learnt my ways- u have to demonstrate your skills today and dont expect a 10 year old paper diploma to make your living. Anyway I am also in a 485 EB2 Q. I am not fretting though- if it comes its a bonus for me, but doesnt change anything for me. I will still live in same home, get same pay, drive same car and get my patents published with same skills. :D

From the day I came to this country , I have spent around $12,000 on immigration including H1-Bs, filing GC, APs, EADs extra. Not to mention the traveling for visa stamps and whole other shit load of expenses. I guess most of people who paid for filing GC did spent same amount of money.
Hell ya, Some one got to be benefiting from my $12000.
AILA should. I heard a lots of para legal staffs are already lost their jobs. Because there were less H1, and GC filings. Actually there is a huge economy based on immigration. If USCIS just changes the rules as they want that would affect lots of US citizens not just few immigrants.
Lets see which businesses/people are making money out of immigration related activities.

Eventhough from a humanitarian point of view, I feel UPA should work with Srilankan government to work out peace. However it is not because the people being killed are Tamilians , who speak the same language as people from my neighbouring state.
I feel sorry for all the civilians who got killed in Iraq, same way.
Now you can't wait to "relinquish" the citizenship of a country that didn't poke it's nose into the affairs of a different sovereign nation as soon as you get the citizenship of another country that is directly responsible for deaths and horrible conditions of scroes more people.
The only reason you are carrying a Indian passport is because it suits you for now. The only condition you are willing to ditch that is when you are sure of a better suited passport for you.
Now express your anger/sympathy or any other emotion but don't pose as if you are doing it for the betterment of world. You put the language people speak over the country one belongs to. What wil make DV bill any different. This wil also go the same way. I would be surpirsed if it even comes up for debate

My friend willigetgc what do EB3 people have besides hope. If you look at the statistics i will get GC in 19 year sand you with a priority date of May 07 (20 - 25 years). No reason not to hope for something and if IV really believes in what i suggested (I am sure it will go through all possible refinements) that would be a signal of not just hope but also action on part of IV to do something about EB Retrogressed folks. Now i am not saying it will happen and i am also not saying it will. All i am saying is here is a chnace to do something different which is also right because iot is not part of teh IV charter that IV is working to get relief for retrogressed EB

Dont worry dude.my pd is eb2 Jul07 and my L1 expired in Dec.My company applied for my H1 in sep 09 and it was approved in 3 weeks without RFE. Some of my friends in consulting got RFEs for renewal but was eventually approved atleast until the date of contract.

I am really worried because these days people are getting rejections for H1 renewals. When my time comes for renewal I want to have the EAD as a backup in case H1 renewal gets rejected.
Please let me know your thoughts on movement to Aug 2006 before Sept 2011.

How does the current company obtain a pre-approved labor? Does it buy the pre-app labour? Or is it SOLELY because someone in the company left (whose labor was approved)?
I was reading a lot about the controversy about why it should be stopped etc so i was wondering if someone had any documentation on why it was started in the first place and how it works

As far as I know there are people from US Army, NASA scientists, NFL players, pastors etc.....from different background are very successfully building the franchise business. No wonder they are growing $1.2 billion dollars every year since 1950.
Of course is not for everyone; its only for people who know the power of free enterprise on which this country is built on.

My Reply (with straight face): I work for a Law firm. We specialize in frauds and scams law suits. Quick as a wink they disappear after hearing this. This has worked so far.:D
My Reply (with straight face): I work for a Law firm. We specialize in frauds and scams law suits. Quick as a wink they disappear after hearing this. This has worked so far.:D
