I disagree. Christ still needs a passport and has to go through immigration check at port of entry to land in US. The easiest for HIM is to get an F-1 visa and then change to H1-B and apply a Green card.

I think we should take the SRK-the-global-icon factor out of the equation and just focus on the ridiculous system that is in place. There were other immigration officers attesting SRK's identity, he showed the officer his event invitation -- what else do you need? Does the whole Muslim world have to pay a price for 9/11? Should the airports around the world put in a 2 hour interrogation for anyone with last name as Bush?

You can mail your I-485 on Feb 29. USCIS must receive it in March. I would suggest you to file your app ASAP in March, because you never know - dates might retrogress again.

We will retire early as we would make $xxxx/month for nothing when we turn 40 and dont need to work anymore where as all you guys bitching about Amway / Quixtar will still be working hard at your jobs till 60.

I fully agree with you. the point is that we are not powerful (EB peopel) in order to force the gov to do something about it. The farmers, illegals, helathcare EB peopel are in much better situation than us (regular EB peopel).
My children are doing very well in schools and they are much better than any average student in the class and I can not take them back to my home country after they have achived good grades. My wife ca not work because she is an H4 holder, I can not take buy a house because I am not sure if I am going to have a job for more than 2 years.

So, there is definitely a huge group of people who don't know what retrogression really means, and how screwed they really are.
But again, these are personal examples. Maybe yours (people knowing about retrogression, and still not bothering about contributing/participating in IV) might have led you to a different conclusion.

- 7% of 40,000 are allocated for India = 2,800
- Number of EB-2 I I-485 apps pending = 30,000
So if there is no spillover from other categories it will take north of 10 years for all the people who applied for I-485 in the July 2007 fiasco to get Green Cards. The only caveat to this would be attrition or legislation.

now that we have 13 pages of discussion ..can we agree on something and start small campaigns atleast ???
that way we can generate more interest in IV.
we can do something indirect too ..such as contacting your realtors ..show interest in buying and then back off ..the advantage in this (if large number of people take part and each contact 4-5 realtors) ..then we will have someone else lobbying for us (rather than ourselves beating our own drum)
if someone has better idea then we can go for that too

How do you know what the "intention" was of the lawmakers that recaptured visas are supposed to go to the retrogressed countries. If that was the case they would have gotten rid of the 7% limitation along with the recapture.
Most people who come on h-1b are Chines and indian. There was also close to 200,000 visitor visas approved in 2005 from India.
I never said AC21 recaptured numbers only for China and India. The reason for AC21 recapture is , there was a huge backlog in EB visas for China and India till 1999. Remember again, there were no backlog in ROW then. If there were no retro in EB visas for India and China in 1999, perhaps, there might not be an any provision to recapture 100,000 visas in AC21 act in 2000 and ROW probabaly might have not enjoyed about 80 to 100,000 EB3 visas in 2005. Nixstor: I know how responsible person you are. You must have given lot of thought to this. Even if 20-30% people buy house, that reduces the no of applicants waiting for GC which will make it faster for the people that do not want to buy now for various reasons.
