Just to be safe: I'd suggest that you contact your lawyer regarding this.
After which, try and see if you can contact the same person at ICE.
(Wouldn't want this to become a "reason" later.....for any issues, like someone to claim that you were a "no-show"...)
Another possibility might be that it still might be a hoax.
Some colleague@work might be aware the person's name who came by 2 months ago.
They might have decided to have fun with that info.....

...if you are willing to see things with open mind, they are very well glorified in US markets too....that's the reason they were able to convince & win the confidence of almost all of the fortune companies....I don't think just by media hype, one could win the markets so consistently and see a continuous growth in a capitalistic market like USA.

One of the recent NewYork times best seller - "The World is Flat" is actually inspired by the words of Infosys Ex CEO - Nandan.....There are numorous articles about Indian offshore companies & thier success in all the top magazines - NY Times, Washington Times, Fortune, Forbs, Business Week, Forbes....you name it, there were plenty of artcles in each and every of these.
Coming to the attrition of employees - Top Indian offshore comany's average attrition rates are around 12-15%, which is still on par with World-wide IT companies (including IT Bigwigs in US). I am very happy with the customer services of New York Indian Consulate. All our passport renewals (4 during last 3 years) happened in a timely fashion and that too thru post without any personal visit. Whenever I e-mailed them with a question, I received answers promptly. I called them to know about status and received precise replies.
I think Meera Shankar needs to be fired. Its bloody 2010 and this is the kind of customer service the indian consulates provide - they dont pick up calls - it takes them a month to issue new passports - Always feel ashamed to be an indian any time I have to deal with these useless consulates.
The Houston consulate does not even have their address properly listed on their website.

No FP yet for me or my wife. Been calling CIS.....feels like talking to a wall.
I guess we CSC transferees are DOOMED!!!

In a key finding, government data document that a moratorium on legal immigrants entering the country could devastate the Social Security system by ballooning the size of the actuarial deficit by almost one-third -- 31 percent -- over a 50-year period. (page 1)
To compensate for the loss of revenue caused by a moratorium would require increasing Social Security taxes on Americans by $506 billion in present value over 50 years and $611 billion over 75 years. Since your situation is aggravated, your wife can apply for F1 visa and come here. How you want to answer visa questions on DS-156 or date your marriage cert is upto you. But all said and done and whatever the morale police on this board have recommended is not really valid because you will be going through all of this and not these people who are giving other suggestions. I really want to ask all these people who say dont backdate marriage cert or dont get her on F1, are you guys angels and have done nothing wrong in your lives or are you just preaching others not to sin?
I think you may have missed the point. The people who were advising the OP weren't necessarily thinking of themselves as angles or as the moral(!e) police, as you politely put it. ;) They may have additional information about a similar situation and maybe trying to help him make the right decision. If you know somebody who tried to backdate a Marriage certificate and got wrongfooted by the Consulate maybe you would try and advise future applicants to be a bit more careful too. Or maybe not. Anyway, not saying that's the case here, but there maybe more to the replies than you think.

Because you are a man and you are from Mars. Men are that way .. they always live in future and somehow completely forget that its the present that they need to live fully and enjoy to the maximum extent. Women live more in present and that's why you will see very few of them stressing themselves out on these forums.
My wife always reminds me this. According to her, its ok to read forums and keep yourself updates with what's going on ... but don't get to much into it, otherwise you will loose your peace of mind.
So I have found my own way ... I am completely into these forums and no matter how hard I try I can not escape from it (you remember.. I am from Mars ... worrying about future is my nature ... so after I get my GC, I will find next topic to worry about ... may it will be abut the US economy or may be how my son's future shapes up), but at the same time I try to convert my frustration to a positive energy by thinking new ways to solve the problem, and contributing them to various forums at IV.
I think you have reached to a state, where you feel disturbed. I would recommend that contribute to IV in a positive manner .... it may be ideas, money, support, organizational work or any other thing. I think this is the only way you can recover from this GC Depression.

I don't have personal problems except with the point I mentioned. I am a consultant. Whenever I go on vacation, I take long vacations after discontinuing my current project. I comeback from vacation and look for a new project. I don't think there is anything fraudulent about that practice. So the above rule definitely concerns me. I think that is non-sense.
What you are saying I understand. And many american/GC holders work as independent contractors on 1099. But H1B is never designed for independent contractor (1099). H1B is designed as W2. By using percentage basis H1B consultants are trying to work like independent contractor on 1099. USCIS is trying to crack down on that.
