How much money you have donated?
This knee-jerk response to question the questioner is not needed.
Whether he/she has donated or not ...is not important.
Everyone who has contributed towards IV and/or intends to contribute towards IV will ask this question. It is not intended to insult or to question the laborious work done by IV. I am hoping more people realize this.
The answer to your question is that IV will not discuss the details of their expenses in public forums. I am not quite sure if its discussed in the donor forums.
However i think a general idea about what the expenses are is as follows.
These are my guesses : (IV Core please feel free to add/remove items to this list)
Ongoing Expenses: Maintaining this website, phone for IV, paying for reputed lobbying consultants, paying for attorneys to pursue important issues in court.
Advocacy Events: renting out hotel suites, possibly paying for lawmakers expenses to attend, advocacy packets for lawmakers, helping members with expenses to fly to DC and meet lawmakers, other miscellaneous expenses stationary/food etc
Please understand that this is an all volunteer based organization and there are no absolutely defined positions/roles played out by members. Members join and help out in areas where help is needed.

I have EAD for couple of years & when I moved to Ohio, I was issued 4 years DL. They did look at I-94 (I travelled on AP having one year validaty on I-94), also they DID NOT looked at my EAD expiry date..They asked very simple question - Do you have your SSN? Thats it..!
C'mon...Guys, come to Ohio..you will get DL for 4 years..
My Ohio license will expire soon along with H1B. As far as my attorney says, when the original H1B application receipt presented, BMV issues one-year renewal. With the H1B approval, they renew the license for three years.

Folks - Amsterdam, Dubai, Brussels are the best way to go. 4 years back, I had problems with Lufthansa, I did not know I ahd to take transit visa and they never allowed me on flight and I had to travel the next day by going to german consulate in morning get visa and went back in afternoon, and surprisingly they had blocked me for that day. Until then, I always used to travel ONLY by lufthansa, but after that experience, I never wanted to. I always fly emirates and I like it.

Just a quick update
Today my checks got cashed and from the back of the checks I got the receipt numbers. I was able to track these numbers on USCIS site and the EAD application for myself and my wife is now pending at TSC.
So the mailing address to Mesquite, TX turned out to be the correct location for me to file...

I would say Canada because British Columbia has a much higher standard of living than Boston. Canada is generally a much better place for raising kids and the stress levels are lower because of freebies like health care etc. BC also has a much better weather compared to Boston.
The other reason is that you could always come to the USA from Canada later but if you lose the Canadian PR now and don't manage to get a green card in the US, you lose everything.
Thanks for the reply isedkeem, and best wishes for your GC journey.
Just throwing some thoughts out: I've seen many rant about the dismal employment situation, unaffordable housing, and high taxes in Canada compared to the United States. Can anyone share their thoughts or experiences on this?

This new proposed rule will not matter for retrogressed categories / countries.
It will affect the lucky few whose PDs are current and can file concurrently. It certainly looks like they are enforcing (FORCING) premium process I-140s down everyones' throat now. It is a very typical dirty ploy from this administration.
Think twice before you talk about corruption and bribes in third world countries. We all know how this system 'works' now...

People do not buy house to sell it. They buy it so that they can live for a long time. And when you do not know how long you are going to stay in this country(because of immigration issues) then why would they buy. There is something called closing cost, who will pay them if you have to sell?
Yes Sir, very true: "People do not buy house to sell it". I am not suggesting that you buy a house and sell it, I am suggesting that in case you plan on buying the house .. don't get intimidated by the bad immigration experience of few folks. My point is that in worst case scenario, if you have to go back to India (which is less than 1% chance), there are ways to deal with house situation.

Guys,
Its quite a gathering out here who have shown some interest or support for the Green card issue for the PhDs. I see numbers increasing slowly. I am networking and try to get more PhDs involved and become aware of the PACE Bill. Friends from many universities are contemplating the line of action to get a change in the language as well as to include the current PhD students/PhD holders in getting benefits from the bill.
I and my friends have drafted a letter and will be sending to our senator (Allen Specter) very soon. It will be great if many more enthusiasts come out and show their support / give their suggestions openly.
So lets keep it rolling.

1. If I-140 is not yet approved and withdrawn, you lose I-485/AP/EAD.
2. I am not sure why they cannot file a second I-140 based on PERM LC right away. Seems to be a no-brainer to me. Must be one of those lawyer things :)
http://www.hooyou.com/eb-1/faq.html
Q: Is it possible to file two petitions, such as an EB-1(a) and NIW, at the same time?
A: Yes. Some of our clients file two I-140 petitions simultaneously. Some clients file three I-140 petitions at the same time. There is nothing stated in the law that prohibits multiple filings. Multiple filings increase your chances of approval.
Thanks for your responses guys. Now I understand that once I withdraw my old I-140, my I-485 is gone.
Reg my question 2, I know that people file 1 in EB3 and second in EB2. Or after one is approved file another one with earlier PD LC. But, is it possible to apply for second I-140 in the same category (EB3) when another one is already pending? Have any one done this before?. Could you guys point me to some links?
I asked this question to my lawyer. No response yet. I would really appreciate your response.

As far as i know-----
Answer to Q#10 :
Country Of Birth drives priority date and NOT Naturalized Citizenship.
So, if you were born in India then your priority date goes by India PD no matter what citizenship you currently have.
Thanks,
Krishna

Got the receipt numbers already, was worried about the physical receipt notice.
"Physical receipt notice" is not necessary. As long as you have the receipt numbers, it is fine.

but, Once I was stopped at the airport by a security agent while travelling within US and he asked me abouit my status. When I mentioned I am on Work Visa he asked me to show the passport and Visa, I was not carrying one. I showed him my DL, He was on call with someone for 20-30min and come back returned my DL and istructed to carry the passport whenever travelling.
Per law, all H1B papers (atleast LCA) should be kept where non-immigrants work. There is no clear law for non-immigrants to hold passport/visa/EAD always with them. They recommend always to keep with you. Further, consulates( when they issue visa), won't give any specific instruction to non-immigrants to carry passport/visa always with them. However, for immigrants (LPR) it is very clear that one MUST hold orginal GC always with them. It is rule/law. The welcome notice clearly shows. Although, many dont practice, it is still a rule. I heared a story when a guy pulled off he got big trouble, when he claimed he is a LPR; and does not carry the GC.

Exactly.
Chances are Obama never even saw your letter, his office has an aide who has a saved format of this letter which is printed out with your name and adressed.
But keep writing and keep calling. They might listen.
Its called a form-letter.
The staff writes those.
They use the same letter and change the name and address of the constituent and copy-paste the generic position on immigration.
That is the reason you are seeing a letter that casts a wide net on immigration issues, like border security, illegals, etc. etc. The staff would send out the same letter to all constituents who are writing for or against immigration or any issue related to immigration.
All lawmakers have staff who repond to communication from constituents and 99% of the time, you get a form-letter response...the one-size-fits-all letter. The audacity of form-letters. ;)

Well currently I live in MN and I have lived in NY before. Both states issued me DL valid beyond my I94 expiry. However in both cases they include "Status check <date>" in my DL, where <date> is the date on which my I-94 expires. So in either state once you go beyond your I-94 expiry date they can cancel your DL.

Can you please share your experiences with renewal of Indian passport in US. They are asking for 3.5cm x 3.5cm photos which are not same as the regular passport size photos. The CGI Houston website mentions passport size photos as requirement in some places and 3.5cm X 3.5 cm photos in some other places. Can you please share on what you did for the photos? thanks a lot.

Thanks for your input guys!
My lawyer (from the new company) is suggesting I go to the local airport to have it corrected. I plan to call there and see if they can handle it.
Else I plan to go once again to the local USCIS office and this time ask for a correction.

Following intresting info is listed on the immigration-law, wish it is true :)
"There has been going around a rumor lately that the USCIS was internally discussing retreat from the 485 rejection decision. It appears that this rumor probably started from the USCIS HQ order over the Texas Service Center to hold all the July 2007 EB-485 applications abeyanbce and not to return the applications to applicants. Unconfirmed sources indicate that because of the order, the Texas Service Center is not returning the EB-485 applications which have been received since July 2, 2007. However, there is no evidence that the decision is necessarily related to its potential decision to withdraw the rejection decision. At this point, its reasons are completion unknown. Please stay tuned. "
