Tuesday June 8th, Press conference in the morning; meeting with legislative offices and a congressional reception that will run to around 10/11 pm. So please book your flights back home on red eye flights Tuesday night or early morning flights on Wednesday.
I have confirmed my travel plan. I will attend all events on Jun 6, 7 and 8. I have already paid for my airfare. I can bear all the local trasportation and incidental expenses. I don't have a place to stay, though. I would appreciate if someone can sponsor a 3 night hotel stay for me in Washington DC.

I am also in the same boat and waiting for the approval as I have recently took a new job with EAD. Yesterday I called USCIS to check what the options are if I don't get my EAD in 90 days. The customer service representative told me to take an info appointment further to get the Interim EAD. I have explained him that local offices are not giving Interim EADs and surprisingly he told me the following thing.
"You can continue the work with I765 receipt notice provided your employer is OK to continue and told me to provide the receipt notice to the employer as a proof of your application is in pending. As I am surely aware of the fact that in order to continue the work we must have an approved physical EAD. I was totally surprised and asked him "Are you sure?? can we continue the work with the receipt??", he replied "Yes and only if your employer agrees for that!"
I have no clue???? What to do, friends please share your thoughts on this.

Your good fight on the retrogression issue kind of kept us going without giving up. In just a few days what some of you have done with www.immigrationvoice.org is amazing and it truly deserves a lot better than the faint response they have got so far from all of us in this legal black hole. Honestly, I do not care if we are not able to raise 100K dollars for the lobbying efforts for the next immigration bill on February. I don not care if this money is finally lost. It will be money well spent if we all realize that we have to do something instead of waiting years and years and years� Any money is worth the effort regarding our goals, even if our present intention does not succeed. Is worth it!!. Lets move on, hoping for the best� It is worth to try this next immigration bill. Any money spent on this is worth it� Can not you guys see it? More and more years on this black hole!! More years paying our lawyers for H1B renewal, more years for renewal of our driving licenses, more years for our wives to wait, more years for our employers exploiting us� This next immigration bill could be our last chance in many years to get our unfair and sad situation known and probably solved. Chandu, my question is not whether HR dept can handle it properly or not.
My intention/question here is if an applicant is on H1 (most of the cases 5th or 6th yr of H1) and then loose the job and until he finds other job (has EAD but never used it) the applicant does not have payroll running during the break. then technically is he ok or does he has to maintain h1 status or does EAD protect him.
Coz until he finds a job and files for AC21 an applicant does not do any thing.
And what do you mean by satisfy AC21 criteria. unless you find a job you cannot file AC21....so during the gap (what is the status of this gap?...technically I am trying to find an answer. please point me to a link or document. If you are aware of it, else can IV find an answer to it)

As far as I know, if you filed for 485 and crossed 180 days after that with the same employer - it basically means that you have satisfied AC21 minimum requirement and you must look for a new job under same or similar category. If you manage to find a job pretty quick, then you can go for h1b transfer and it should not be an issue, but if it is taking time, then you may have issues with transfer because you may not have paystubs, but technically, you are legally allowed to stay because a decision on your 485 has not yet been made and before a decision is made look for a new job in same or similar criteria.

good response. we are all in this together and need to work together in order to get things done. IV is not just IV core but each and every member. each member should try to do something positive in order to help IV in whatever way theycan. - contributing money, help increase members, contact their local lawmakers and also contacting media. we need to raise awareness andevery small positive action done by an iv member helps in the overall scheme of things.

Unfortunately, I can't leave the US for the following reasons
a) AOS pending
b) H1 expiring soon
c) Won't get any vacation time as just joined a new job.
If you have applied for AOS in July 07, you probably would have got your EAD by now. Why dont you use your EAD to get a DL renewed?

Let's say, I am not able to do that. But, do you suspect that they might APPROVE my 485 BEFORE my PD gets current? If they don't then, I am in no trouble, isn't that right? If they don't approve, then, I can add her into AOS when my PD gets current again assuming I don't file for EAD (I won't - I like my employer for now).

My company lawyer addressed this part. The way it works is that they will work on your file only when your PD is current. So even if you apply now, they most likely wont work on it after July as your PD wont be current. Then when next time (say in Jan 2008) when your PD becomes current, they will pick up all the files for that month and start working on it. It might be that they will work on your file on Jan1st or Jan 31st. You can send your wife AOS the moment your PD becomes current. So you want to make sure that it reaches there before they approve your AOS. In case you are extremely unlucky, then they would start working on your file on 1st day of the month and finish it before end of that day, making it impossible for your wife's application to go through. Thats rare though. So if you can make sure that her app reaches on 1st day of the month in which PD is current, then they should most likely add her to your AOS and work on those together and make your life go forward....its a chance which you will be taking...But again life is a chance

Actually, contrary to your understanding, I think the officers denying the DL application understands immigration law. Submitting an extension application absolutely does not mean you have had the extension, since it might be well rejected. Issuing the DL can only be based on approved documents.
Your luck actually lies on meeting some officer who does not understand immigration law, or any law, thus give you a chance to slip through.

Tried to explain to the manager of the office, but got a lecture on how good their public transport system is. Then I went to another DL office in a rural county. The counter clerk refused, asked to see the supervisor who agreed to extend for 6 months by which time my extension came through.

I just call them, was told that they have no additional information that what is available on the recorded message or the USCIS case status web site. I said I wanted to know if the case is 'pre-adjudicated' and the lady mentioned that that information is not disclosed. ;(
After nearly 15 months, going by recent postings here , I was tempted to call IO to get any update on my 'pending I-485' . I happened to talk to a nice IO on my first attempt. She took some time to check on status and told me my 'name check is pending'. I told her on previous occasions / Infopass I was all the time told 'everything for me, especially name check is cleared'. She came out with an explanation---- your 2nd FP was cleared on 17 July 09 (Yes, I had 2nd FP on 7/6/09 as Ist FP in Sept 07 'expired' after 15 Mo validity) and that is why new 'name check' is initiated.
I can not believe this. If this is so, they may have to wait for 180 days even if there is nothing adverse from fbi and the dates become current.
It is very creepy.....
Please, share your thoughts if uscis require NC again and again for this never ending GC process ..
